2019 Neitzel Year in Review

December 12, 2019June 17, 2025, By: Marissa

Welcome to my 2019 Neitzel Year in Review (plus Erin)! If you are reading this, that means you probably got my annual Christmas Letter and were just DYING to read my blog. If you didn’t get my Christmas Letter… my bad. Guess you didn’t make the cut. Maybe next year? I’ll link a go fund me below. Stamps are expensive.

As I am reading through this and looking at my photos, I realized that it’s not quite the Neitzel’s year in review. It’s more of Amanda and I plus Erin and maaaybe my mom. Erin is our adopted Puerto Rican. She brings to the table an equal love of pie and musicals, so we have decided to keep her around.

If you don’t care about us and just want to see the new puppy, please scroll to the end. I fully understand.

Yeehaw! Let’s get started!

2019 The Neitzel’s Year in Review

January

Rang in the new year seeing the Broadway show, Dear Evan Hansen. It is truly amazing.
While on a Flordia trip, Amanda and her co-worker Tracey went to the Broadway show, Hamilton. They went without me and haven’t shut up about it since. Rude.

February

My friend Ashley, who I met studying abroad, visited me in Long Beach!
Amanda and her friend, Sherin, went to Austin, Texas to visit some of their college friends! And eat BBQ.

March

Amanda and I saw the musical, “Cats”! It was… different… meow.
In the “spring” Amanda and I went camping in Idyllwild, CA. It was COLD AF.
And if you know us, camping is ALWAYS an adventure. If you want to read about that whole trip check out my Travel Diary: Camping in Idyllwild. I explain why there is an air mattress in my trunk. Thank god we didn’t take the Tesla.
The Dirty Jeans Comedy with Claudia Oshry Tour with Erin, Amanda, and Morgan. Claudia Oshry is one of the hosts for Camp Toast, which Amanda and I went to last year!

April

My friend Roy, from study abroad, visiting me. Took him to Disneyland obviously.
Easter brunch! After I hid Easter eggs around the house for Amanda to find. I’m so funny.

May

Les Miserables. My FAAAAV musical of all time. Not pictured: Amanda and Erin. I took this picture… On My Own… (Les Mis joke)
Ariana Grande Concert. Had to wear a ponytail. duh.
And Amanda and Erin too. But they didn’t do the iconic Ariana ponytail. Thank you, NEXT.
We also saw Fiddler on the Roof the same weekend as Ariana Grande AND Les Mis. Yes, that is right. 2 musicals and 1 concert in one weekend lol.
I flew home to see one of my longest friend’s oldest sister get married. I saw friends from middle school and spent time with Andie, who I never see since she lives in Washington DC! Such a beautiful wedding.
We spent the end of May on a two-week vacation to Ireland and Scotland with our friend Erin. If you want to read all about Ireland, check out my Ireland Travel Diary. I talk about visiting Dublin, Dingle, Ring of Kerry, Galway and how Amanda managed to not kill us driving on the other side of the road.
We also went to Scotland! Check out my Scotland Travel Diary. I wrote all about Glasgow, Stirling, Alloa, Edinburgh, and our Outlander TV Show Filming Tour. Scotland was amazing and all of our favorite.

June

We started June on vacation and we rang in Amanda’s 29th birthday back in Dublin!
My friend from study abroad, April, flew over from England for our last few days in Dublin. Here we are at the Jameson Distillery celebrating Amanda’s birthday and getting hammered.
One thing Amanda and I always wanted to do was to rent bikes and bike around Venice and Santa Monica. I was so sweaty. I shouldn’t have worn jeans.

July

We flew up for the 4th of July and saw Grrrrrrrrammmmmyyyy and papa.
This is my favorite photo of Grammy and Amanda!
While we were home, we went to Speedway with our Dad, just like old times!
Hugh Jackman Verity Show! If you can’t sing Beauty and the Beast, Les Mis and The Greatest Showman… then you can’t sit with us.
One of the last things we did before Amanda moved away, was stay at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach. Erin had a gift certificate from a past client so figured why not. We got upgraded to a villa and we decided to live the boujeest life we could in 24 hours.
That evening, we had a lovely dinner, Amanda and Erin went to the spa for massages and we spent the entire day at the pool, drinking. We were embracing our inner Real Housewives of Orange County.

August

In August, I threw Amanda a surprise going away party. The theme was friends, “The One Where Amanda Leaves Us” and I had everyone dress in 90’s outfits.
I invited all her work friends!
And her bff Lindsey flew down!
My mom flew down with Lindsey! We spent Friday night together and all Saturday without Amanda knowing hahaha. Me so sneaky.
And then Amanda moved to Flordia and bought a house!
The house is still a work in progress so for right now you just get pics from the realtor listing.
ANDDD on top of a new house, Amanda got a LIL PUPPY! Welcome to the family, Moose! (more pics at end of blog)

September

Amanda spent the first week of September being evacuated and hunkering down at her co-worker, Tracey’s house, with Moooosie to wait out a HURRICANE. Yes. Amanda’s first hurricane.
Erin and I going along just GREAT without Amanda. Like, Amanda WHO?

October

In the beginning of Oct, I flew up North for Eric’s 30th birthday! While I was home, I forced my mom to take me to Apple Hill.
Eric’s 30th Birthday!
For Halloween this year, the theme was Game of Thrones. I dressed up as Sansa…
….and for work, I dressed up as Tormund and my co-worker was Jon Snow. It was hilarious. Such a fun day. And yes it was my 3rd year in a row WINNING the costume contest.
Moose dressed up as a Llama. He appears to be having an identity crisis.

November

Mother flew out to Florida to visit Amanda and Moose.
They spent a majority of the time doing DIY projects but still found time for some fun things, like an alligator airboat tour!
Amanda and her team doing team bonding ax throwing. This picture was taken to remind everyone at SpaceX not to mess with the purchasing team.
Wow, another Musical. Shocking. My 4th one this year.
My dad and I flew out for Thanksgiving. We obviously had to go to Disneyland!
Visited the Kennedy Space Center
Amanda made an extremely good Thanksgiving Turkey!
Our Florida Thanksgiving

December

My 27th birthday!!

And that’s all I have for December so far. More to come. But in the meantime check out all the puppy pics.

Moosey

I feel honored and blessed to be apart of the Neitzel’s 2019 year and look forward to stepping up in the 2020 year to step in for Amanda Neitzel in anyway I can. I know I am under qualified for the position, but bring eagerness and determination to the role. Thank you and kindest regards.
