Since Game of Thrones ended this year, I felt like this was a great last year to dress up as a character from the show. Obviously, this show is iconic and people will be dressing up as Game of Thrones forever but, this year I feel like there will be a ton.
I love making different redhead Halloween costumes every year. I have a list of my top favorite Halloween Costumes for Redheads if you need MOREEEE ideas.
Or if you are feeling in a different moood I have a DIY Miss Frizzle or a DIY Beyonce Homecoming Coachella costume as well.
Alright, let’s get started. This might take some time. And we all know the night is long and full of terrors… Well, the night is long and full of crafts, actually.
DIY Sansa Stark Game of Thrones Halloween Costume Guide!
What I love about this outfit is that this is super easy and comfortable and it doesn’t require any sewing! It’s pretty much a dress and a cape. And you can make it as easy as you want! Feel free to skip the making of the dress and just buy a black one. Or skip the cape and just Amazon one!
Side note, I am affiliated with Amazon associates program so I make a lil mullaaahh off my links, because I am a savvy businesswoman. Ok?
DIY Sansa Stark Game of Thrones Costume Supplies:
DIY Sansa’s Dress
- Black Material – For Sansa’s dress, I went to JoAnns and got this faux leather, hexagon patterned, black material for the dress. I wanted it to have a tough, armor look since I am going off of Sansa Season 8, where she’s more of a BO$$.
- Black Dress Material – I got 1.5 yards of the Black Hexagon material. This is just what I got but JoAnn’s had tons of options!
- Amazon also has this Black Faux Leather option or this Faux Leather Basketweave option.
- Leather String– I used this to weave the sides together and to create the detail in the front
Black Sansa’s Dress
If you don’t like to craft (then leave, jk), you can just skip the above part and find a long black dress online.
Sansa Stark Cape
Again, just like above you can DIY this part or just buy one online.
- Black Cape – I bought 2 yards of black material
- Fur Top – a half yard
Sansa Stark Chain
You know in season 8, she was always wearing this cool design:
- Circle Ring – They are for macrame or dream catchers.
- Chain – Silver or gold, whatever matches the ring
- They actually have a Sansa Chain on Amazon.
- Jewelry Pliers – I have had this 3 Piece Set of Pliers for a zillion years. I fix all my jewelry with it. Good set to just have!
How to Make Your Sansa Stark Game of Thrones Costume:
Feel free to skip steps if you aren’t DIYing or crafting everything. I am going to write it all out as if someone was creating the whole outfit.
Step 1:
First, get all yo supplies.
Step 2:
Next, we shall start with the dress. Fold your material in half. Make sure if you were to pull the material it’s stretchy from side to side, not up and down. You want it to be stretchy AROUND you. Next, I laid one of my dresses from my closet on top of the material as a guide and pinned it to the material. See pictures below, my dress is this Tank Top Swing/T-shirt Dress. It’s just a guide. Line up the shoulders of the guide dress to the top fold of the material. Cut about 1-2 inches from your dress. Don’t forget about the neck. But don’t cut the folded top of the material over the shoulders.
Step 3:
Once you have your dress cut out, unpin your guide dress from your material. Re-pin the two materials back together. Using a pair of scissors cut small holes down each side of the material. Use your leather cord to lace up the sides. You can sew it if you prefer but I thought this little detail added a little somethin’ somethin’. I did the same to the neckline. Cut a slit down the front, cut holes on both sides of the slit and then weave the cord through. Pics below. Boom, dress is done.
Step 4:
Next, the cape. I wanted my cape to be longer than the 36 inches of material so I cut the two yards in half and sewed the two long ends together.
Then I laid out the material, in half, on the ground and cut a “J” shaped along the side. (See Pic).
Step 5:
Once you have your cape cut out, baste the top. I hand basted. That sounds dirty lol. I prefer to hand baste versus using a machine. LMAO. My mom’s going to read this and be like 1. wtf or 2. that’s not funny. Basting is just doing a super loose stitch across the top.
Step 6:
Scrunch up the basted edge to your desired length.
So I didn’t have a raw edge, I folded, pinned and sewed the top so it would stay and look nicer.
Step 7:
Glue, sew or safety pin (depending on your crafting level) two leather straps to the ends of cape top corners. Once the two leather straps are sewn, voila!
Step 8:
Next, sew on the fur. Place the furry side of the material to the inside of the cape, the part that faces your body (right side material to wrong side of material) at the top edge of the cape. Sew along the edge. Flip fur over. BOOM. Your cape is done.
Step 9:
Now, onto the chain. This is easy. Measure out the chain length you desire, cut it. Using your pliers, separate one end chain link enough to slip the hoop in and then close the link. See? Easy. ORRR if you are dumb like me, the chain didn’t fit around the ring so I just wrapped some thread around both pieces.
AND THAT’S IT!
