Visit The Dingle Peninsula, Ireland
Welcome to my visit The Dingle Peninsula, Ireland guide! I have all the best things for you to eat, see, do, stay, and explore throughout the Dingle Peninsula! Dingle Peninsula was hands down my favorite part of my Ireland trip. It was so green, calm, relaxing and I felt we really got to emerge ourselves into the Irish culture. If you are debating between the Ring of Kerry or Dingle, I’m writing a blog on Kerry as well. We did both. Stayed in Dingle and drove over to Kerry in one day. It’s do-able! But we preferred Dingle! We visited the Dingle Peninsula after Dublin and before Galway on our Ireland road trip!
So sit back and relax while I plan the best places to visit in Dingle Peninsula, Ireland whether it’s your first time to the Dingle Peninsula or your 100th! Check out my Travel Diary on Ireland if you want to see exactly what we did on our Irish vacation before you visit Dingle!
What to Do in The Dingle Peninsula, Ireland:
The Dingle Peninsula, Ireland is a really, really small peninsula. I recommend renting a car and doing one loop around the peninsula! You don’t need more than one day in Dingle but I would stay in the area for a few days and do day drives to Kerry, Killarney, Adare and Limerick as well.
Driving Around The Dingle Peninsula
- Inch Beach – The start of the peninsula drive. We just looked at it, didn’t stop.
- Minard Castle – You can’t go into the castle, but it’s a fun first stop.
- Town of Dingle – A super cute town with a lot of little shops and cafes. Spent a good amount of time here wandering around.
- Boat Tours – Here in Dingle you can book boat tours to see “Fungie” the dolphin. We didn’t do this but you could!
- Dingle Oceanworld Aquarium – Small but good if you have kids.
- Dingle Distillery – Good if you don’t have kids!
- Look for signs for “Animal Feedings” – There are quite a few along the way!
- The Famine Cottages – I am only including this because it was on every to-do list but personally, it seemed weird and I would skip it.
- Beehive huts/ beehive forts– Old AF huts. Like B.C. old.
- Hold a baby lamb – right next to the huts
- Slea Head Viewpoint – Views
- Coumeenoole Beach – Such cool views. You can walk down to the beach if you like. They filmed Star Wars on this beach!
- Dunmore Head – Same parking lot as the beach above, but you walk up the path, instead of down to the beach.
- Dunquin Harbor – Views
- Blasket Island Viewpoint – View of the Blasket Islands
- Clogher Strand – Everyone’s second fav beach after Coumeenoole.
- Gallarus Castle – A lil castle, nothing CRAZY, but still cool.
- Connor Pass – Highest point with views of Dingle. A tight, steep drive though.
Where to Eat Around The Dingle Peninsula, Ireland:
There is PLENTY to eat in Dublin. If you want the true Irish experience, skip my dinner section and just go to a pub. Have some fish and chips, order a pint and listen to some Irish music. Cheers! But, eat breakfast because I found some stellar spots and you should try them.
Where to Eat In Dingle
- Pantri Cafe – Irish Cafe
- Bean in Dingle – We had some amazing coffee here! So cute too! One of the artists displayed on the wall was the same artist I came across and bought from in NYC, which was cool.
- An Cupan Tae – You know I love me a wee spot of tea and a scone!
- Courtney’s Bakery – We stopped in here for a lil treat.
- Treehouse Cafe – Good for breakfast or lunch.
- The Little Cheese Shop – We obviously had to buy cheese here, get a baguette and a bottle of wine. A common dinner for us!
- McCarthy’s Crepes – Crepes!
- My Boy Blue – Great for Breakfast/ Lunch
- Out of the Blue Seafood – Fresh Seafood
- The Chart House – Dinner
- Murphy’s Ice Cream – OBVIOUSLY a must! Fresh, homemade ice-cream right here in Dingle.
Where to Eat Around the Peninsula
So we pretty much just snacked around the peninsula. A scone here, a cup of tea here. Pretty much bought something when we needed to pee.
- Caifé Na Trá – Great views here!
- Teac Couminole Cafe – If it’s sunny, eat outside.
- Dunquin Pottery and Cafe – We stopped here for some tea and cake!
- Tig Áine – Again, eat outside if possible
- West Kerry Brewery – a wee bite and a brew! Taste the beer of Dingle.
Where to Eat In Annascaul (where we stayed)
There wasn’t many options here but everything we had was good!
- The South Pole Inn – I had the lamb stew and it was great!! My sister had fish and chips and liked them. The interior of the place is cool!
- Foleys Bar & Restaurant – Irish pub and traditional food.
- Hanafin’s Bar – Where we threw back a couple pints while being serenaded by a band.
Where to Stay Around The Dingle Peninsula, Ireland:
We stayed in the cutest Bed and Breakfast in Annascaul. It was on a little farm! We wanted the full Irish country experience of course!
- Bed and Breakfast – I loved our stay at Shadow River Farm. Our hosts were the sweetest people. They provided delicious breakfasts every morning. Literally some of the best meals I had in Ireland were at this place. They drove us to their farm to pet sheep and feed horses. It was seriously so lovely.
- Here are some websites I used to look up bed and breakfasts : Airbnb, Stay in a Castle, Bed&Breakfast Ireland. We wanted a unique experience which is why we didn’t look up any hotels.
Tips for Dingle, Ireland:
Couple of tips for when you visit Dublin!
- Currency– Euros
- Transportation – There are lots of tour buses that come through here. But I wouldn’t rely on the public transportation here. I would rent a car 10000%.
- Weather – Honestly, I checked the weather app every day and every day it was wrong. We went in May and it was drizzling on and off, a bit misty and super sunny all in one day. I always carried an umbrella or a jacket with a hood, just in case. It can get cold and windy right on the coast.
- Pick Pockets – I felt super safe. It seemed like most of the tourists were in Dublin. Dingle was quiet and relaxing.
- Days in Dingle – We stayed in Dingle and had 1 day on the peninsula and one day in Kerry. I wish we had one more so we could have done Kenmare and Killarney.
Alrighty people. That rounds out my list of what you should eat, see and do when you Visit Dingle Peninsula, Ireland.
