Where to Stay in Florence, Italy
I believe that anywhere in city center of Florence would be a great place to stay. Every street is breathtaking and there are places to eat around every corner. Florence is very small and very safe. HERE is a site with information on each neighborhood. When I went to Florence I was a poor student so it was the hostel life for me. Not to be confused with a pirates life for me.
- Backpackers Florence– We originally booked here, but something happened with our reservation and they moved us to their “sister” hostel down the street. I’m still going to recommend this place solely based on customer service. They were so sorry and put my friend and I in what I would call a “honeymoon suite”. It was great!
- Riverbank’s Hostel– Where we spent our “honeymoon” lol. Great hostel. Such cute, boutique rooms.
What to Do in Florence, Italy
- Santa Maria del Fiore/ Duomo– The coolest cathedral I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen a lot. You can climb the Duomo and the bell tower for about about €18. We bought our tickets here. The climb to the top of the Duomo is tight and steep. But worth it! I also recommend watching the video below about the Duomo’s dome and how it was built. We studied it in architecture and I found it fascinating.
- Santa Croce– to see the tomb of Michelangelo and Galileo.
- The coolest thing we did is get a bottle of wine and climb the stairs to the top of Piazzale Michelangelo to watch the sunset. It was so magical. I recommend this to everyone.
- Accademia Gallery– You want to see Michelangelo’s David, right
- Piazza Della Signoria– You want to see a copy of Michelangelo’s David, right?
- Mercato Centrale– You know I LOVEEEE markets!
- Ponte Vecchio– Another must do. Beautiful, historic bridge with shops along it.
- Giardino Bardini– When you get tired of breathtaking buildings and want to look at plants
- Uffizi Galleries– Get your museum on. It’s not Beyonce and Jay-Z in the Lourve, but close enough.
Tips for Florence, Italy
- Watch out for pickpockets and people on the streets shoving selfie sticks in your face.
- We didn’t use any public transportation except coming/going on the train. You can walk pretty much anywhere.
- If you are interested in fineeeee leather goods this is the place for you! If you are interested in buying cheap, leather knock offs cause you have no idea what real leather looks like… this is also the place for you!
- Don’t bring heels, it’s all cobblestone. Unless you are really good at walking on uneven surfaces in heels.
- Eat everything. Eat. That. Pasta. Girl.
